Venice is mysterious, unpredictable, and wild. Behind the picturesque backdrop of palaces, churches and canals lies a cosmos that remains largely unexplored to this day, inhabited by an extraordinary menagerie of living creatures. They are everywhere, yet barely visible. They live in the heart of the city, move beneath it or look down upon it from high above. Venice is a myth, the most magnificent backdrop in the world. Yet the city leads a double life. It lies amid a fascinating landscape dotted with many partly uninhabited islands that still convey the same impression today as they did when the first settlers drove their stakes into the muddy ground. Humans and nature have created a shared habitat that they have inhabited together for thousands of years: the lagoon.
This Universum documentary explores the lives of these secret inhabitants of the lagoon.
