UNIVERSUM: PETER ROSEGGERS WALDHEIMAT

The term “Waldheimat” enabled Peter Rosegger to give an entire region a name. But he achieved something more: ever since, the area between the Mürz Valley and the hills of eastern Styria has been more than just a geographical location on the eastern edge of the Alps. The Waldheimat became a synonym, a source of identity, and the very essence of what it means to be “Styrian.” It is no coincidence that Peter Rosegger is still considered one of the most beloved Styrians in history.

For the “Universum” documentary Rosegger’s Waldheimat – A Year in the Enchanted Forest, Klaus T. Steindl observed the wildlife and nature of the Waldheimat as the seasons changed. The landscape around Alpl, with its many untouched natural areas and regions, offers not only a wealth of stunning imagery but also surprising stories of wildlife.
