Richard Sorge - Stalins James Bond

Richard Sorge is regarded as one of the most successful spies of the 20th century. The son of a German father and a Russian mother, he was a member of Hitler’s NSDAP and yet became Stalin’s most important intelligence agent in Japan, which was allied with Nazi Germany. “He was supposed,” Rudolf Augstein wrote in 1951, “to betray his fatherland, but in favour of his motherland.”
