This new episode of "Land of the Mountains" crosses borders. In the far south of Austria, along the border with Italy, stretches the Carnic Ridge, a mountain range steeped in history where thousands of Austro-Hungarian and Italian soldiers faced each other during the First World War. Today, the former ridge of fate is home to the 150-kilometer Carnic High Trail, also known as the Peace Trail or Via della Pace. The route follows the border ridge between South Tyrol, the Austrian provinces of East Tyrol and Carinthia, and the Italian provinces of Belluno and Udine.
The film tells the story of mountain huts in spectacular locations and the people who run them. It explores their passion for simplicity and their fascination with bridging the gap between silence and the demands of tourism. It is about the dedication and resilience required to cope with life in the mountains, far from comfort and community, while also meeting the expectations of a new generation of hikers who carry modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi and culinary diversity in their backpacks. And it captures their amazement when nature takes over and none of those things seem to matter anymore…
