During the downhill race at the 1976 Winter Olympics, 22-year-old Franz Klammer finds himself in the eye of the storm. Since the previous season, the charismatic newcomer has won almost every downhill event. With the pressure from the media and the public mounting, and the hopes of an entire nation resting on his shoulders, the stakes could not be higher. Just before the race, his sponsor pressures him to change his equipment, the weather conditions continue to deteriorate, and his biggest rivals know that Franz must do more than simply avoid mistakes. Realizing that he must find his own path, Franz draws strength from the love of his life. What follows is the race of his life, in which he takes the seemingly impossible line that would make him a legend of alpine skiing to this day.
