Heimatleuchten: Advent am Arlberg

In Austria’s largest ski area, the winter carousel is already in full swing during Advent. The mountain pass between Tyrol and Vorarlberg is the birthplace of alpine skiing and at the same time one of the country’s most famous winter sports destinations.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the area is already bustling with activity. Every local is part of the winter carousel. Whether it is baker Martin Walch, forester Norbert Egger, avalanche blaster Angelika Kaufmann, hotelier Andrea Schuler, or farmer Hans Küng — the hectic pace of the pre-Christmas season leaves no one’s daily life untouched.
And yet, there is still time for peace and reflection. Away from the slopes, in untouched nature, or in the few quiet moments people have left to prepare for Christmas. Behind the glamour and sparkle, the people of the Arlberg continue to celebrate their Advent traditions and cherish their special corner of home.
