Final Hours

Prague in the turmoil of the final months of the German occupation: Czech Commissioner Beran and his assistant Morava are faced with a delicate task. Together with the German Chief Inspector Buback, they are supposed to solve the murder of a German general’s widow. But what role does Buback really play? Is he merely an informant whose true assignment is not to solve the murder, but rather to find out how deeply the Prague criminal police are entangled in the resistance against the German occupiers? Meanwhile, the killer strikes again—a psychopathic serial murderer who makes no distinction between German and Czech victims. Yet when the armed uprising against the occupiers breaks out in May 1945, the story is no longer just about a murderer, but about the problem of guilt and atonement, perpetrators and victims, revenge and retribution.
