On July 3, 1866, the challenger Prussia unexpectedly defeated the dominant power Austria. Within just a few hours, the Battle of Königgrätz radically shifted the balance of power in Europe and marked the beginning of the end of the Habsburg monarchy.
Marking the upcoming 160th anniversary, the new docudrama The Fall of the Habsburgs – The Battle of Königgrätz explores this turning point in Austrian history in a way never seen before. Directed by Fritz Kalteis, the production dispels long-standing myths and brings previously untold personal stories to the forefront.
A film by Fritz Kalteis.
