They came from the far north, were notorious as fierce warriors, and created a progressive and wealthy kingdom during the dark Middle Ages: the Normans.
How did this handful of mercenaries manage to establish their own kingdom within a short time? How did they manage to give Sicily an unparalleled period of prosperity? The Normans were masters of mobility, innovation, and integration. They traded, relied on the sciences and created magnificent works of art, making Sicily the cultural, scientific and economic centre of Europe. Their recipe for success: they did not oppress, they cooperated. To this day, the Normans are present on Sicily in many ways. Elaborate reenactments, valuable historical finds and experts from different countries bring the story to life. The result is as colourful and multifaceted as Sicily itself...
