Bergbauernleben: Vom Hausruck nach Villgraten. Frühling und Sommer

This documentary portrays two mountain farming families from Upper Austria and East Tyrol through the changing seasons. These featured “bio pioneers” are farmers by passion. The film also focuses on two very different landscapes: the Hausruck, the largest range in the Alpine foothills with its countless green hills, and the picturesque Villgraten Valley with its untouched mountains. We experience spring and summer.

Josef Schett grew up in the remote Villgraten Valley with its steep slopes. His imposing farm stands on terrain that commands respect. From an early age, he developed a deep connection to his homeland. It is this attachment that kept him in the valley while many others left. In 1985, he took over the family farm, converted it to sheep breeding, and founded a marketing company for lamb and natural products from East Tyrol. Preserving tradition while introducing new ideas best describes Josef Schett.

The Hochhubergut farm sits at an altitude of 640 meters, at the highest point of the Aschach an der Steyr area near Kalkalpen National Park, surrounded by gentle hills and sweeping landscapes. Twenty-five years ago, this breathtaking panoramic view inspired the Postlmayr family to take a different path from the neighboring farmers. Organic farming, regionality, and tourism became the cornerstones of a new philosophy they wanted to embrace.

Through their sustainable way of life, these mountain farming pioneers are both guardians of regional cultural heritage and visionaries for the future. Resource-efficient farm management is their highest priority and unites them in their way of life. At the heart of their efforts lies the vision of a completely self-sufficient existence.
