Bergbauernleben in Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße

The Schattbachers are pioneers of organic farming in the Pinzgau region and true innovators. Having grown up on a farm, Josef Schattbacher has embraced organic principles and circular thinking since childhood. Ten years ago, the family restored the Zulehenhaus, originally built in 1492, where they have since been putting their vision of sustainable living into practice. “Biosophy” is both their motto and their way of life.

At an altitude of 800 meters, Josef and Birgit Schattbacher run their farm according to the principles of “biosophy” – a combination of organic agriculture and sustainable living. The historic Zulehenhaus, dating back to 1492, was renovated just over a decade ago and provides all the technical possibilities needed to realize the Schattbachers’ vision: farming based on circular economy principles and innovative environmental solutions. Their 23 miniature zebus, Birgit’s rose workshop, and their eco-friendly energy supply based on photovoltaic technology all reflect their unwavering belief in living in harmony with nature.
