Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is the world’s most famous painting. Everybody knows that it is exhibited in the Louvre and according to the journal of Giorgio Vasari, chronicler of Renaissance art history, the work’s actual name is La Gioconda.

La Gioconda can be traced back to Francesco del Giocondo, a wealthy Florentine merchant, and Mona Lisa is said to be the portrait of his wife, Lisa del Giocondo.

However there have been doubts about this theory for quite some time, perhaps Mona Lisa was someone entirely different…
